One of the first conversational memories that I have with my Mother was her telling me I could be anything I wanted to be when I grow up. I could even be the first woman President. I think I was around 8 years old and it was a cool summer day. The sincere words were shared as Mother sat with my head in her lap on the front porch swing. I do not remember the entire conversation, but the thought of all the possibilities resonate in my heart to this very day.
The gift of those words empowered me to approach my life unafraid to be anything I chose. Sometimes it worked out and other times it didn't. From being the center of attention to hiding in someones shadow, I followed my heart. So far I have not entertained being a politician, but then again my life's story is still being written.
